Black Candy (Iforgotmypenisathome) 2010

Chemould Prescott Road, Mumbai

Having an androgynous approach, Black Candy incorporated a trans disciplinary gaze by evoking intangible sensory aspects of biological body where mind became a source of contemplation.

It became a collective voice of the repressed male/homosexual desires bringing out the male body as vulnerable and craving for care. In these unseen aspects of human body, masculinity and femininity collapsed. The disguised attire of masculinity covered with dark human experience traveled through the intimacy, sexuality and identity on male psyche and gaze

Audiences’ experiences of sensory engagement with the art works made bodily presence even more pronounced, like tasting candies or listening to the audio installations while looking at the visuals, though momentary, evoked sensual bodies. Emotions transferred from one body (mine) to another body (the audiences’), lending the works an ability to draw out an emotional body that exists in one and all, irrespective of our outer differences.
