Over the past years, Non-Spinal has been produced at multiple sites in different versions. At each site, both indoors and outdoors, in horizontal and vertical forms, the work complicates the exhibition space with its materiality and vivid dimensions.
“To have a spine” is an expression of pride and self-confidence. A spine is also an important anatomical, neural element of the human body. The work non-spinal has all these connotations associated with it.
A simple hand tool and a war weapon – a pick-axe or simply a pick is an important part of human evolutionary history. It is a reflection of physical manual labor. In itself a sexless-object, a pick-axe has conventionally subtle impressions of male sexuality and its energy of digging deep.
