4th Wasanii International Artists Workshop, Lamu, Kenya
The installation explored the veils’ meaning in the local community. It consisted of black veil material stitched into a large tent-like enclosure with 6 panel doors (3mtr /1mtr) inscribed by burnt marks of a poem on women’s desire. The 3 meter long veil suggests a cover of a body as well as a cover of a bed with a double bed laid within its folds. Installed in the courtyard of the Lamu Fort, the black veil billowed in the wind suggested the turbulence that may have occurred in the private space of the bedroom.
