The genesis of the ongoing (from 2000) “unbelonging” series depicts feminine identity through hair. The hair has a melancholic wit because it is fascinating when connected with the body, but becomes perplexing and repulsive once we lose it. It has the contradiction of going from fascination to objection and rejection and eventually an ‘unbelonging’.
